'My five-year-old searched bins for food'
The roll out of universal credit is leaving people "near destitute" due to flaws in its design, this programme has heard.
It is intended to make claiming benefits more simple - but the knock on-effect of a six-week delay before receiving any money has led to huge problems for some.
Our reporter John Owen hears how one woman's child was forced to search for food in bins, and from another father who says he didn't eat for three days.
The Department for Work and Pensions said: "No-one who needs support should have to wait six weeks. When people apply for universal credit they are advised about the maximum advance they can receive, and that they can repay over 6 months."
