'It encourages people to get into debt'
Universal credit has faced a backlash from some MPs, who fear payment delays risk pushing families into destitution.
One of the first cities in the country to begin switching to the system was Newcastle upon Tyne.
Now about 10,000 in the city claim universal credit, which rolls six working-age benefits into a single payment designed to make the system simpler and ensure no-one faces a situation where they would be better off claiming benefits than working.
In his second report Andrew Bomford visits the Citizens Advice Bureau in Newcastle city centre to find how the switch to universal credit is affecting residents.
