大象传媒 Minute: On breaking the stigma of vitiligo

Vitiligo is a long-term condition where pale white patches develop on the skin or hair. These areas lose pigment, when the cells that produce melanin disappear. It affects around 1% of the world's population. Famous model Winnie Harlow has it, as did Michael Jackson. Experts are still not exactly sure what causes it, although some suspect it is an autoimmune disorder.

Ogo Maduewesi from Lagos in Nigeria developed the condition at the age of 30. She now works to support people living with it across Nigeria, after setting up the Vitiligo Support and Awareness Foundation (VITSAF).
