Can sex cause the heart to stop?
In the United States more than a thousand people a day collapse when their heart stops suddenly because of an electrical fault – a cardiac arrest. Some people worry that the exertion of having sex might put extra strain on the heart and cause it to stop. But at the American Heart Association’s conference this week Dr Sumeet Chugh revealed that it’s a lot less common than we think – so he will carry on reassuring patients in his clinic at the Heart Institute at Cedars Sinai Heart Institute in Los Angeles.
