Cricketer Jimmy Anderson wonders whether Australia's Nathan Lyon lost a bet after his recent comments on England ahead of the Ashes.

Lyon recently said he hopes Australia can "end the careers" of some England players during the Ashes series.

Responding to the comments, Anderson said: "If anything he's putting more pressure on himself, if he bowls badly he's going to look like a right idiot isn't he?

"I wonder whether he's lost a bet or something to come out with the stuff that he's been coming out with."

The first Ashes Test starts in Brisbane on Thursday.
