Surrey mayors cost 拢400,000 over three years

大象传媒 Surrey has discovered that districts and boroughs in Surrey have spent more than 拢400,000 on mayors in the last three years. Each council has a ceremonial mayor except Mole Valley and Tandridge - at a total cost of around 400 pounds a day although the figures vary considerably. The money includes the amount paid to mayors in allowances plus spending on chauffeurs and replacing their chains and badges.

大象传媒 Surrey sent Freedom of Information requests to every council in the county asking how much they paid their mayors, how much they spent on cars for them and how much on their chains of office. The bulk of the overall spend is on the allowances paid to them. Most are councillors too, which means they get an allowance for that separate role and an extra mayoral allowance. Cash was also spent on car costs for them, with one council paying out to have a chauffeur's uniform cleaned.
