Whittingdale on 大象传媒 pay: 'There is still a problem'
While serving as Culture Secretary for the Conservative party, John Whittingdale pushed for the 大象传媒 to publish salary details of presenters earning more than 拢150,000. At the time, he was told by the Director General Tony Hall that the pay gap between male and female employees would be narrowed by 2020.
On the day that the 大象传媒's China editor Carrie Gracie resigned from her position, citing pay inequality with male editors, Mr Whittingdale tells Radio 4's World at One that "nothing has really happened" to improve the situation and is calling on the Director General "to make it clear the actions he is going to take to address this."
