The concept of 'ownership' as traditionally understood needs updating, according to this week's Long Interview subject: digital interconnectedness means tech companies to jealously guard access to the inner workings of their products, while reserving the right to impose updates on devices long after they've left the factory.
The battle to preserve the right to repair and control access to our devices, and crucially, the data that is on it, is the latest struggle in the vanguard of technological development. Gordon Brewer speaks to Dr Alison Powell, Assistant Professor at the Department of Media and Communications at the London School of Economics about the issues that the 'internet of things' has thrown up.
