Should MPs be able to job-share?
In the 2015 General Election, Sarah Cope and Clare Lorraine Phipps tried to stand as job-share candidates for the Green Party. The returning officer in the constituency of Basingstoke decided job-sharing didn't fall within the regulations. The Fawcett Society's chief executive Sam Smethers believes the rules should change. She told The Westminster Hour: "It would send a huge signal to the wider population that Parliament is modernising itself and that it's more relevant to people's lives." However, Labour MP Carolyn Harris said: "I don't think that it's a job-sharing role. I can't see, how on a practical level, it would work."
