A Mum's Memory Tape
Phillipa from Huddersfield shares this week's Memory Tape - and it's a musical selection curated especially for her daughter.
Today's Memory Taper is Phillipa, or 'Pip' for short, from Huddersfield.
Pip is a teacher, and she spoke to us from the comfort of her own home after her school was shut due to the snowy weather conditions in the UK. She filled her Memory Tape full of specially-curated tracks for her daughter.
She told us: 鈥淪o, we are a household that tend to spend lots of social time in the kitchen, most often with 6 Music on in the background. With 2 young children (5 and 1), we rarely see live music anymore, although as a student in Manchester in the early Noughties, I spent a lot of time in the various academy venues.
Music does play a big part of our lives though. My daughter, Isobel, spends a lot of time singing and dancing (often making up her own songs) and loves her street dance lessons. My son, Oscar, already shows a huge love of music. He can't speak yet, but is always singing little tunes, asking for nursery rhymes, and though he isn't yet independently walking, he finds a way to dance!"
So what was her inspiration for this Memory Tape?
Pip told us "A few years ago I began to put together a playlist for my daughter. Some of it is songs that have a special meaning within our family and some of it was just to introduce her to different music. She does have an impressively eclectic taste already, though tends to favour female vocalists and quite rightly is currently enjoying First Aid Kit a lot. Her love of The Beastie Boys doesn't stop her enjoying the Trolls soundtrack, and I encourage this diversity fully!鈥
