Necropolis: London's railway for the dead
The Necropolis Railway ran for 87 years and was the Victorian answer to a severe lack of burial space in London. At the turn of the century the train was transporting more than 2000 bodies a year out to Brookwood Cemetery, at the time one of the largest burial places in the world.
