Today鈥檚 Memory Taper is Dave Wright. He鈥檚 a biomedical scientist based in Bedford but this selection is taking us back to his late 90s school days, with a shout out for the classic curtain haircut.

Dave says: 鈥淭he school selection is a funny one for me. I was never one of the cool kids but I managed to keep a reasonably low profile. Headphones on: tape/CD in. Each year at upper school had its own social area with a small stereo and, as long we didn鈥檛 play things too loud and kept the swears to a minimum, we could get away with playing anything.

1997 was the year of my GCSEs and also the year of Fat Of The Land. It was a pretty big album for me - the Firestarter and Breathe singles that preceded its release we probably the first things I put on the stereo at school. From there, I was playing bits fairly regularly.

At that time my musical taste was influenced by my Uncle Don, my best mate Tom and the Evening Session. Uncle Tom lived with us for a while and periodically gave me his CDs - The Clash 鈥� Combat Rock, Happy Mondays 鈥� Pills Thrills and Bellyaches, The Jam 鈥� Sound Affects and a Ska compilation called Liquidators - he was a pretty decent guitarist and drummer too. At the same time, I was also starting to hear a lot of Jungle and Drum 鈥榥鈥� Bass around the way.鈥�
