Sister Sledge, Young Fathers & Friday Film Club

Sister Sledge reminisce about disco, ahead of a 40th anniversary tour. Young Father discuss outsider music and Danny Boyle's T2. And Helen O'Hara has the film news and reviews.

Sister Sledge reminisce about disco, ahead of a 40th anniversary tour with Odyssey, Boney M and more. They remember crazy outfits, being chaperoned to Studio 54, and the joy of being "your wildest self." They also reflect upon performing without their sister Joni, who died last year (and is probably now "choreographing a massive production in heaven") and they reveal they're planning a 2019 tribute concert, with brand new songs.

Young Father return to the 6 Music Live Room, fresh from the release of new album Cocoa Sugar. They talk about going wild in the studio and the intuition that helps them know when they're ready to stop recording. They reflect on their outsider status within the music industry and being considered "weird" despite their "hooky" songs. They also remember working with Danny Boyle on the T2 soundtrack, a man they describe as a "great ball of energy" and who called their songs the "beating heart" of his film.

And speaking of Danny Boyle, we have to talk about the news he's going to work on the next James Bond film, with Helen O'Hara. She also reviews Tomb Raider and Mary Magdalene.
