'Politicians need to think beyond Brexit'

The director of the Social Market Foundation has said that politicians need to look beyond Brexit "to think about the things that might matter even more in the long-run. James Kirkup told The Westminster Hour that the Government's industrial strategy needs to go further. He said: "Social mobility and industrial strategy should really be the same thing, creating much stronger links between schools and employers. Getting ahead in life shouldn't always mean leaving your home town and moving to London. Commenting on political parties' plans for future tax systems, he added: "Let's cut tax on wages and instead tax property and other assets whose value has been inflated. And raise more tax from inherited wealth. And while we're at it, let's replace our outdated council tax and road tax too."
