Think slavery is a thing of the past? Think again. In the past year alone 145 cases of modern slavery were recorded in Scotland and they're just the victims we know about. Modern slavery takes many forms and it effects people of all genders, races and ages.

Some groups are more vulnerable than others such as those living in poverty or who are socially excluded. So what are the signs to look out for. Does the person appear malnourished or unkempt. Do they appear withdrawn? Victims of slavery might be living in dirty cramped or overcrowded accommodation and they may seem unfamiliar with their neighbourhood.

It's common for victims of slavery to have very few possessions, have no ID and be wearing the same clothing day in day out. If you think there's a chance you could be witnessing modern slavery be sure to check the signs.
