After an increase in the number of gun and knife related deaths in London, 5 live has spoken to a City Council member from a district in Los Angeles which has reduced violent crime.

Los Angeles鈥� 15th District set up the Watts Gang Task Force in 2006. It brings together police, community leaders, city government and former and active gang members for a weekly meeting.

Speaking to 5 live's Charlie Charlton; Joe Buscaino said that "residents are now not afraid of coming forward and helping the police department investigate crimes.鈥�

Mr Buscaino said London could adopt a similar scheme to help identify criminals who are committing crimes in communities.
