David Seaman: ‘Give Arsene the respect he deserves’
Former Arsenal goalkeeper David Seaman says fans should respect what Arsene Wenger did for the club through his tenure, rather than focusing on its current struggles to compete at the top of the Premier League.
Wenger, who will step down at the end of the season after 22 years, has endured a turbulent relationship with Arsenal fans in recent seasons, with some reacting with joy that he is to leave.
Seaman said: ‘It was sad to see the reaction of the fans… obviously they are entitled to their opinion but I just want people now to look back at what Arsene has done… let’s give him the respect he deserves’.
He added he didn’t think Arsene Wenger had lost the support of his players but ‘it didn’t look like it was an Arsenal team he had managed for a long time’
The Gunners manager has is to leave the club a year before his contract is due to expire.
