'It's time 16 & 17-year-olds got the vote'
A Labour MP has said that 16 and 17-year-olds would be "the most knowledgeable and the most equipped people" if they were given the chance to vote in elections. Peter Kyle has introduced a bill calling on the voting age to be lowered to 16, under-24s to be automatically enrolled on the electoral register and polling stations to be put in educational establishments, which has its second reading this week. He told The Westminster Hour's John Beesley: "They will be surrounded by people that can answer their questions. They will be in a group of people who are many in number so every single politician is going to be knocking down the door regularly to answer their questions and be accessible to them. I think they would be the most knowledgeable and the most equipped people to make an independent decision about how to vote that there is around."
