RAF 100: The amazing story of Sir Douglas Bader
As the RAF celebrate their 100th anniversary, we hear the story of famous pilot Sir Douglas Bader. He was seriously injured during an accident at Woodley airfield, but went on to become one of the force's most famous members.
His son-in-law shared a story of escape with 大象传媒 Radio Berkshire's Sarah Walker.
David Bickers:
"He came down into a German aircraft...he managed to escape, he was shot down but managed to escape by releasing one of his trapped artificial legs.
"He was immediately hidden by the resistance, but unfortunately he was bretrayed, the German's captured him but he then requested two artificial legs were delivered to him.
"As soon as he got them he tied knots in his sheets and escaped out of the hospital."
