In 1962 Aretha Franklin was referred to as the Queen of Soul, a title she has defended and retained uncontested until her passing.
Shrines have appeared outside Detroit's New Bethel Baptist Church,where she began singing gospel as a child, by her star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame and fans have gathered together at New York City's landmark Apollo Theatre.
