It's nearly 10 years since one of the most extraordinary survival stories unfolded in America.

Famously known as the Miracle of Hudson River, back in January 2009, US Airways Flight 1549 was forced to make an emergency landing on the Hudson River in New York.

A collision with a flock of geese caused the jet's two engines to stop working and set alight, leaving pilot Chesley Sullenberger no option but to land the plane on water. All 155 people on-board miraculously survived.

Whilst Captain Sullenberger is rightly hailed as a hero, another man who deserves as much recognition is Patrick Harten, the air traffic controller who helped guide 'Sully' to safety. Patrick is running the New York Marathon on Sunday and will have his medal presented by Sullenberger at the finish line.

And Patrick told Sportshour the race is a perfect way to mark the 10th anniversary of the miracle and sees it as a marker for moving on with his life after suffering post-traumatic stress syndrome.
