"Just about everyone I know lost their home"
At least 31 people are known to have died in the most destructive wildfires in California's history. In the town of Paradise, authorities estimate that 90% of home have been destroyed.
The mayor of Paradise, Jody Jones, lost her home along with almost all of her neighbours. She spoke to Newsday about how her own family are coping and what she saw when she visited what remains of the town.
