Ex-FCO head: Brexiteers must 'face up' to their responsibility for deal
The former head of the Foreign Office has said Brexiteer ministers are "largely" responsible for the withdrawal agreement approved by EU leaders.
Speaking on Radio 4's Broadcasting House programme Sir Simon Fraser, who ran the Foreign Office until 2015, said "they forced us into a situation where we went very early on Article 50, we set some very tough red lines on the negotiation, which means that the outcome we could achieve is basically what we have now."
Sir Simon, who backed Remain in 2016 and now advises businesses on Brexit, added: "What they have to face up to is that it's very largely their responsibility for where we are."
