US lawmakers challenge Rwanda government over Diane Rwigara
The Rwandan opposition politician Diane Rwigara faces up to 22 years in prison on charges of inciting insurrection and forgery. She is due to be back in court on Thursday.
She denies the charges, saying they are politically motivated after she decided to run against Paul Kagame in presidential elections.
Now congressional lawmakers in the US are urging the Rwandan government to reconsider her case. One of those is congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici who says that the eyes of the world are on Mr Kagame's government.
