Mandela and After: South Africa 25 years on - Politics

The New South Africa will be 25 years old in the spring this year: the black-majority country was liberated from minority white rule in 1994, with the first democratic elections in April that year that brought Nelson Mandela to power.

Since then there has been progress with housing and education, but the economy is not healthy, and there's a rising tide of resentment at corruption.

In the first of four reports, Hugh Sykes reflecting on the 25th anniversary of the country's liberation, explores whether the fortunes of the African National Congress party are starting to fade.
