Wakaliwood, Uganda’s rising film industry
I’m in Wakaliga slums the home of Wakaliwood, Uganda’s film capital to see how they are combating these short-comings, to make beautiful films.
I’m in downtown Kampala and all around me are movie shops….the problem? Most of what’s on sale here is not original. I just picked this dvd for 2,000 Ugandan shillings or just about half a dollar.
This black market movie market is one of the main challenges facing the film industry in the country. I’ll be spending some time with movie producers to find out if all their work can be justified by just half a dollar.
