President Trump 'a gift' to comedy writing
In a 2015 column, journalist Carl Hiaasen wrote: 鈥淭here will never be a President Trump.鈥
鈥淚 didn鈥檛 think it was possible,鈥 he told 大象传媒 Hardtalk鈥檚 Stephen Sackur, adding that 鈥渋t would defy satire鈥 if Mr Trump was elected.
Mr Hiaasen also said he did not believe that Barack Obama could be elected, explaining that when he was growing up there were segregated beaches and segregated bathrooms.
鈥淭he idea of an African-American in the White House seemed inconceivable to me,鈥 he said.
鈥淚t shows what the capacity for hope is, and it shows what the capacity for utter cynicism is - on both sides,鈥 Mr Hiaasen said.
