The rise of ‘fake kidnappers’
Sue Williams is a British hostage negotiator who, in a career spanning almost three decades, has overseen hundreds of hostages successfully returned home. Speaking to Kim Chakanetsa, Sue says that when she first became involved in hostage situations they were always done covertly. Now with social media and 24/7 news, information about hostages spreads quickly, which has given rise to 'fake kidnappers' who hold families to ransom.
