‘Islamic State’ teenager stripped of British citizenship
The UK government has decided to strip Shamima Begum of her citizenship. The 19-year-old woman left London to join the so-called Islamic State in Syria, four years ago. She now wants the UK government to show her compassion and allow her to return home with her newborn baby. Begum’s family say they would challenge the decision. To get a legal sense of the issue, Newsday’s Nomia Iqbal spoke to Matthew Scott, a barrister and author of barristerblogger.com.
