"Should I get my kids tested for cancer?"
Raj lost his wife to a hereditary cancer. Nim Rainu, a mother of three young children, died aged just 34, but her cancer was hereditary and steps could have been taken to prevent it had she known she was carrying a defective gene. Nim鈥檚 husband Raj talked to Trish Adudu.
Losing anybody through cancer is devastating for all concerned but for one family it has been particularly difficult knowing that the death could possibly have been prevented. 3-10% of cancer cases are linked to an inherited faulty gene. The majority of cancers are not due to anything genetics testing can pick up. Not everyone is eligible for genetic testing on the NHS but there鈥檚 information about the types of cancers that are tested for and about who may be eligible on the Cancer Research UK website.
