Wendy Mitchell: My advice for coping with dementia
Five years ago Wendy Mitchell was diagnosed with young-onset dementia. She was just 58 years old.
Before the diagnosis, she was known for her sharp mind and organisational skills in her role as an NHS manager and as a single mum to two daughters.
When she couldn’t shake a feeling of fogginess, she sought medical help - it led to the life-changing diagnosis.
Wendy now has difficulty remembering things like the day of the week, when to eat/if she’s eaten and conversations she's had, but she doesn't like focusing on what she can't do.
This mind-set led her to writing Somebody I Used to Know, a memoir for the woman she once was and an affirmation of the woman dementia has seen her become.
Watch the video to hear Wendy's advice about how to cope with dementia, whether you or a relative has been diagnosed.
