Tolpuddle Martyrs Remixed: Six Dorset Men who Changed the World
A digital creation of the six farm labourers from Tolpuddle who fought for improved wages against a backdrop of extreme poverty in the early nineteenth century has gone on display at the Shire Hall Historic Courthouse Museum in Dorchester. The attraction tells the story of the earliest agricultural trade unionists battling against severe hardship for improved working conditions, before a rigged trial resulted in each of the men being sentenced to transportation to Australia. The exhibition by Wakfield artist Jason Wilsher-Mills opened to the general public this week.
