The former Archbishop of Canterbury has called the expenses scandal a "watershed" moment in British politics.

Dr Rowan Williams said it confirmed some people's worst suspicions that people in politics are there for "personal gain".

"Where we are now with people's attitudes to Parliament has something to do with that, I am absolutely sure of that," he said.
