Sounds of Nature from Around the World

An International assortment of sounds sent in by Our of Doors listeners

POND
Hello from an ex-pat Brechiner. Thought you might want to hear the evening chorus from Georgetown, Kentucky.

I’m standing beside the pond in our back yard. The traffic on the main road about 1/2 mile away slowly fades, and the tree frogs are in fine voice.

Love the podcast. I wish we had something close to it here in Kentucky. Perhaps you could do a program on the Kentucky wildcat?

Cheers.

MONKEY
Hi Euan and Mark
Love the programme.
Listening to the programme on ´óÏó´«Ã½ Sounds in Colombia this week where we are on holiday escaping the British winter. Here is a sound scape recorded in the Tayrona National Park but can you tell what it is? Answer is at the bottom of the email but don’t cheat!

Palizada River
from Gavin Shand which said…

I’ve been enjoying the podcasts for the past three months while living in Mexico, it is always nice to hear some voices and stories from home.

Over the past couple of weeks I’ve been photographing the landscapes along the Palizada River in southern Mexico, a forgotten corner with a mixture of jungle and farmland.

We travelled along the river in a canoe and camped in hammocks each night. The wildlife was incredible and we saw a vast array of bird life and a number of howler monkeys.

After hearing the piece with Phil Cunningham before Christmas, I thought I’d have a bash at doing a soundscape of what I was very lucky to wake up to each morning on the river.

To avoid the heat of the day we would get up early and this clip was taken from the canoe while gliding alongside the river bank before sunrise.

FROGS
Hello Mark and Euan
I really enjoy listening to the podcast as I walk my dog in my neighbourhood. It makes me want to visit Scotland again. The last time I was there was 2013 and I had a fantastic time meeting some second cousins for the first time and exploring all over from Glasgow and Edinburgh to Skye and the Orkneys.

I live in Vancouver, British Columbia and on a recent night at about 9 p.m. I stepped out the front door of a local tennis club and thought I could hear some frogs. I walked to a small bridge over a marshy pond in a park to get a better listen, simply following the sound. The bridge is over 400 meters from the front door of the club (see attached photo) and by the time I got to the bridge it was a truly loud chorus. I took out my phone and made a short sound scape. I hope you enjoy it.
Best regards,
Brian
