Brooks Koepka brought Bethpage Black to heel with an opening round 63 – seven under par – but a late rally from Danny Lee means the American didn’t have it all his own way over the best players in the world.
The New Zealander is six under, one shot back, but the nature of Koepka’s round has an ominous feel to it. He’s looking for his fourth major win in seven tournaments and he’s playing a brand of comically good golf which is making the competition wince.
