D-Day remembered: 75 years on

Seventy five years ago, an allied force of 160,000 troops stormed the beaches of Normandy.

D-Day changed the course of history, opening up a new front in the Second World War that led, ultimately, to victory over Hitler and the Nazis.

But it came at a dreadful price. Almost four and a half thousand British troops were killed on that one day alone.

Twelve hundred of them died on the sands.

The survivors still alive are old men now, the youngest in their nineties.

Many made the journey back to Normandy for the 75th anniversary.
