Bob Collymore, CEO of telecoms giant Safaricom, has died
The CEO of Kenyan telecoms company Safaricom, Bob Collymore, has died. He had been suffering from an acute form of leukemia.
Collymore, who was a British businessman born in Guyana, was well known in Kenya and East Africa for championing M-Pesa to Kenyans. The mobile money transfer platform began as texting money between users, but has now evolved to cover billions of financial transactions in Kenya.
The 大象传媒's Africa Business Editor, Larry Madowo, who knew him well, spoke to Newsday's Lawrence Pollard.
