Peterloo
Commemorating Peterloo in song and story.
On 16 August 1819 tens of thousands of people gathered in St Peter’s Fields in Manchester.
It was a peaceful protest and the people were waiting to hear well know orator Henry Hunt.
Just as he was about to speak – mounted troopers swept in – killing and wounding indiscriminately.
This week on Sunday Folk, you’ll be hearing about what was to be dubbed the Peterloo Massacre, and the stories and songs from the time, in the company of Charlotte Peters-Rock and Dr Alison Morgan.
