Cornwall, My Story: Life on Looe Island
Have you heard of Looe Island?
It was owned and inhabited by two sisters - Babs and Evelyn Atkins - who bought it in the mid-sixties and lived there by themselves into very old age.
The sisters eventually gifted it to the Cornwall Wildlife Trust to be managed in perpetuity as a marine nature reserve. Also known as 'St George's' Island, it sits one mile off Looe and covers just over 22 acres including woodland, grassland, shingle and a rocky reef teaming with wildlife - seabirds and seals.
So what is life like on Looe Island?
Assistant warden Claire Lewis has been showing our reporter Hannah Stacey around the precious site as part of our 'Cornwall, My Story' series.
