An aviation company on Portland has formally taken ownership of more than a dozen Sea King helicopters from the Ministry of Defence. A transfer ceremony was held at HeliOperations, attended by Vice Admiral Tony Johnstone-Burt, the deputy Lieutenant for Dorset, and Admiral Sir Alan Massey, the former chief executive of the coastguard. The Search and Rescue training facility has purchased six aircraft initially with the remainder to follow in the near future. The package will include spares and support equipment in a total deal costing several million pounds. The Sea King aircraft was recently retired from full operational service with the Royal Navy.
