Edinburgh International Book Festival: Why are bookshops still thriving?
Edinburgh's International Book Festival is a world-renowned celebration of the written word. So what is the enduring appeal of the book and indeed the bookshop? Well despite the growth in ebooks and online outlets, bookshops aren鈥檛 just surviving - they're thriving.
While many retailers are shutting up shop, booksellers are opening up. The Booksellers Association says three new shops have opened in Edinburgh so far this year and its membership across the UK is growing steadily.
