Economic value of ankole horns
Ankole cattle are well-known for thriving in areas with scarce water supplies. Could the economic value of the cow’s iconic horns help sustain the species into the future? One raw horn costs about ten dollars and fetches a profit of forty dollars after value addition. On average, the price of Ankole horn products such as bowls, serving spoons and vases in the export market ranges from ten dollars to eighty dollars per piece.
