Artist paints with her mouth after being paralysed by stray bullet

Mariam Par茅 was a studying fine art when she was paralysed by a stray bullet aged just 20.

Having lost the use of her hands, she began to learn to paint with her mouth. Having specially adapted the way she works, she once again creates beautifully detailed portraits.

She has just been chosen as one of the artists whose work will feature on Christmas cards produced by a group called the Mouth and Foot Painting Artists.

Mariam who lives near Chicago spoke to Newsday's James Copnall about her journey as an artist.
