Reading FC: Gomes sacking and Bowen appointment down to 'the owner and his associates'
New Royals boss Mark Bowen says he had nothing to do with Jose Gomes' sacking.
Bowen was appointed as Reading manager after Jose Gomes was sacked from his position last week, which the former Welsh international insists he had no hand in.
鈥淚 got a phone call [after the Bristol City game] that the decision had been made by the owner and his associates,鈥 Bowen told 大象传媒 Radio Berkshire鈥檚 Tim Dellor. 鈥淚 was then asked to go through the process of drawing up a list of candidates.
鈥淚鈥檇 already spoken to two or three candidates in that process, so it hardly rings true as someone who thinks the job鈥檚 going to come to me.
鈥淚 got a phone call over the weekend鈥aying the owner had had a look of things and probably wants as little disruption as possible.
鈥淪o he鈥檚 put to me that the least obtrusive way of doing things is: 鈥榃ould you like the job?鈥.鈥
And Bowen said that he鈥檚 confident the current squad is good enough to climb the table.
鈥淒o I think this squad can still achieve promotion, whether it be automatic or through the play-offs? Yes, absolutely.
鈥淚t starts this Saturday.鈥
