This soldier cut off his leg to save his crew
Ezra Maes is a 21-year-old soldier from Colorado in the US. He was stationed in Poland as part of a NATO operation when he and his crew members fell asleep in their tank.
They were woken when the tank started moving downhill. The parking brake had failed, and the emergency braking systems were unresponsive. The tank then crashed at full speed, leaving the crew injured.
Ezra's right leg was caught in the tank gear, but he pulled it free - severing it - in order to help his colleagues.
He spoke to 大象传媒 OS.
