"I wanted to bring her fierceness to the screen": Harriet director Kasi Lemmons
The life of Harriet Tubman, who escaped slavery in the US in 1849 to become a leading abolitionist, is being celebrated in a new film. As a 鈥榗onductor鈥� on the Underground Railroad she enabled hundreds of enslaved people to gain their freedom. British actress Cynthia Erivo plays her in Harriet, which is directed by Kasi Lemmons. Kasi spoke to Woman's Hour鈥檚 Jane Garvey about bringing Harriet鈥檚 story to the screen.
