Could cats help us detect earthquakes?
PURRS is a "pet-based urban rapid response to shaking" system that has been suggested by Celeste Labedz - a Caltech seismologist. Celeste tells Gareth Mitchell about cats' particular sensitivities to P-waves (primary waves), which are barely noticeable to humans, and how a network of cats could help us respond faster to earthquakes.
