Uber's first report into sexual assaults in the US
The ride-hailing company Uber said it received almost 6,000 reports of sexual assault in the United States in 2017 and 2018. While the number of cases rose last year, the rate of incidents dropped by 16%, as the number of journeys was higher. The data was published for the first time in a report to show its commitment to "improving safety for Uber and the entire industry". Newsday spoke to Alison Randall from the National Network to End Domestic Violence - one of the charities working with Uber on the figures:
