Forging a friendship through art in Rwanda
Art can help to heal trauma and bring people together. A Burundian artist, Mike Katihabuga, who fled the violence in his homeland to Rwanda, was taken in by Djamal Ntagara, a fellow artist who runs an art centre in the capital, Kigali. The two bonded over their love of art and soon became friends. Mike and Djamal are now working together on an exhibition planned for January 2020 which they say will show the power of peace and friendship. Mike and Djamal have been telling Newsday about their story.
