'I was scared' - Liza Kilpatrick
A breast cancer survivor from Strabane is calling for the introduction of a breast implant registry in Northern Ireland after she was caught up in a breast implant recall. Liza Kilpatrick, a mother-of-three, was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer in 2013. She went on to have a double mastectomy which removed both the cancerous breast and her other healthy breast. After tests, it emerged that one of her implants has ruptured. Liza then found out that she had been fitted with a type of textured breast implant that had been recalled first in Europe and then worldwide after it was linked to a rare form of cancer. Liza says she had to fight to get answers to even find out the brand of implant she had been fitted with and she believes women are not been given clear enough warnings about the risks associated with breast implants.
